Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for a Chef Manager to join our team and be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day running of the Thermo Fisher Scientific in Horsham.  To provide a safe and secure environment in support of excellent people care and leaving people with a good impression of the catering service and continued support of Logistics & Aurora house vending, maintaining the safety, cleanliness and hygiene of the unit to the required standard in the SLA & KPIs. 

 

Main Responsibilities

  • To manage on a daily basis the effective operation of the Catering & vending service across multiple sites. 

  • To ensure that all food is prepared with due care and attention, particularly in regard to customers’ special dietary requirements and allergen awareness, inline with PPDS and calorific information as per legislation by use of a data management system, monitoring and updating. 

  • To organise all hospitality catering for meeting rooms and any special functions as required, some of which may occasionally occur outside of normal working hours. 

  • To implement and maintain the statutory and company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any actions as is necessary. 

  • To take all necessary steps to ensure maximum security of the kitchen, store, office, safe and monies and any other areas under Sodexo’s control. 

  • To organize, prepare and present all food and at the required time, provide the standard laid down in the Service Level Agreement and to clients, customers and Sodexo’s satisfaction. 

  • To check all documentation is completed. 

  • To ensure all Health and Safety documentation has been fully completed; health and safety for Sodexo staff, risk assessments, report maintenance needs. 

  • To be responsible for checking the paperwork, process and screening records of staff and to ensure information is given to Sodexo for processing. 

  • Liaise with the Chef, Supervisor, Food Service Assistants and the Site team leaders, on the planning of daily and shift activities, ensuring adequate staffing levels.  

  • To provide an immediate response and ongoing support as required during Site emergencies. 

  • To monitor the systems and any necessary systems as instructed. 

  • To check all staff wear the full uniform at all times unless authorised otherwise. 

  • To monitor and ensure the training requirements as laid down by Sodexo, inductions, Great Box and competency training.  Ensure all staff complete the Sodexo induction plan. 

  • To process all holiday requests and communicate these through to your line manager and follow up to ensure adequate cover is provided. 

  • Provide assistance in the planning and training of Sodexo staff working at the Site and maintain records.  

  • To prioritise tasks and respond to ad hoc requests. 

  • Assist with the recruitment, induction, training, motivation and appraisal of staff to promote good employee relations and operate within Company procedures, legislation and the Investors in People standards.   

  • To monitor and minimise the use of relief staff to keep actual wage percentage to budgeted levels or below. 

  • Ensure accurate, legible operations logs, reports & statements for document/ incidents as required for Sodexo and site SOPs. 

  • Ensure that all equipment is in safe working order, checked regularly and serviced.  Report any faults to management/the client, ensure they are rectified and ensure equipment is not used until safe. 

  • To deal with issues efficiently and effectively and to be able to respond, to be alerted to any potential issues as soon as possible. 

  • Identify opportunities for organic growth and new business. 

  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by management. 

  • Recruitment of staff (to be approved by General Manager before appointment). 

  • All customer complaints to be satisfactorily resolved within 48 hours. 

  • Take disciplinary action with staff (as appropriate) in the form of investigatory meetings. Refer any potential disciplinary issues to your General  Manager, who will assist you in raising  with Human Resources 

  • To deliver a consistent level of service, within the Company's standards, to the contract specification and agreed performance, qualitative and financial targets. 

  • Comply with all Company & Client policies and statutory regulations relating to Health & Safety, safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards in your work place and training of staff. 

The Ideal Candidate

You will-

  • Fully understand the Site and local procedures. 

  • Have an understanding of the computer systems in operation. 

  • Understand the need to maintain diplomatic silence. 

  • Understand the need to display an official but courteous manner at all times. 

  • Proven experience in managing and leading a catering  team  

  • Competent IT skills including MS word, MS excel and MS outlook  

  • Industry acumen and knowledge of external catering developments & innovations 

  • Strong financial understanding and demonstrable budgeting management 

  • Experienced in adhering to and driving company initiatives  

  • Good communication, and negotiation skills  

  • Experience working in a standards /compliance environment  

 

Desirable 

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate 

  • NVQ Level 2 chef qualification or equivalent 

  • Experience of delivering training using company guidelines 

  • Ability to develop increasing individual effectiveness through leadership, motivation, communication, coaching and training.
