As a Catering Assistant/Ward Host you will be responsible for: working with both the ward team and the  to develop and maintain the patient environment, providing high quality helpful and courteous beverage and meal service to meet the needs of the patients. Duties will include, but are not limited to: To assist in the preparation of all patient food services. To ensure that all food is prepared in a safe and hygienic manner at all times. Distribution of menu folders to patients. Service of food to patients at designated times. Collect, wash, refill and distribute patient water jugs and glasses. You will also be trained to work on Costa Coffee and help in all aspects of the catering operation within the hospital. The regeneration of food in accordance with Food Hygiene Codes of Practice, checking the temperature of food and recording prior to service to patients. Conduct meal service by attractive presentation adhering to portion sizes. Monitor and report wastage levels of patient meals, ensure ward issues are maintained at agreed levels and ensure stock control and rotation procedures are maintained. Prepare and serve a range of snacks to patients between meals or on an adhoc basis as instructed by nursing staff. Collection, washing and storage of all crockery and cutlery items at ward level. Maintain ward kitchens and equipment in a clean and hygienic manner. Checking and recording fridge temperatures. Clean and maintain kitchen, kitchen cupboards, fixtures and appliances. This role will be dual as there will be times that you will need to assist in the kitchen with serving customers at lunch time and serving and clearing down events also. Please note a full DBS check will be carried out.This job requires working some weekends. Job Introduction

To ensure the prompt and efficient preparation and service of all meals to the company’s standard and to the client’s satisfaction and maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the Unit to the required standard in the Service Level Agreement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collation of patient orders using an electronic ordering system
  • Preparation of food to appropriate standards, accounting for any specific dietary requirements.
  • Serving of food via the “belt” ensuring requested items are provided to patient.
  • Cleaning of all equipment using appropriate materials to ensure a high standard of cleanliness
  • Delivery of food to wards via Wessex vehicles
  • Any other reasonable request including cover for retail staff as appropriate
  • Collection and washing up of dirty crockery, cutlery and service utensils
  • Safe use of industrial catering equipment
  • Decanting and labelling food items
  • Recording of temperatures and corrective actions in accordance with company policy
  • Stock rotation
  • Complete monthly mandatory training in line with the role
  • Carry out any additional duties required by line manager due to business demands  

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience with food handling ideally gained in a similar environment
  • Knowledge of best practice in relation to cleaning
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Excellent customer service skills, able to interact effectively with patients when required and present a positive impression of Sodexo.
