Job Introduction 

We’re looking for a Domestic/ Laundry to join our Sodexo team at Ellens Glen House. In this vital role, you’ll help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work will directly support health and wellbeing throughout the hospital.  What you’ll do: 

  • Deliver a high-quality laundry, linen and sewing service in line with operational standards and service requirements. 

  • Operate laundry equipment including washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing equipment and labelling systems safely and effectively. 

  • Sort, wash, dry, fold and distribute laundry and linen items efficiently and accurately. 

  • Maintain linen stores, ensuring stock levels are monitored and replenished to meet service demand. 

  • Ensure linen rooms, storage areas and equipment are kept clean, organised and compliant with health and safety standards. 

  • Carry out basic sewing and repair tasks, including alterations and repairs to uniforms, patient clothing and curtains where required. 

  • Complete relevant documentation and maintain accurate records in line with departmental procedures. 

  • Comply with infection prevention, health and safety, COSHH, manual handling and fire safety regulations at all times. 

  • Report equipment faults, maintenance issues, stock shortages or safety concerns promptly to management. 

  • Participate in training, development activities and team meetings to support continuous improvement. 

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive, professional approach when working with colleagues, patients, residents and visitors. 

What you bring: 

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation. 

  • Good communication and customer service skills. 

  • Ability to prioritise workload and respond positively to changing demands. 

  • Understanding of health and safety practices, including safe equipment operation and infection prevention procedures. 

  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment, including prolonged standing, lifting, moving items and repetitive tasks. 

  • Ability to remain calm, focused and professional under pressure. 

  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and development programmes. 

  • Previous experience in laundry, housekeeping, healthcare support or a similar environment is desirable but not essential. 

  • A positive attitude and commitment to supporting a culture of quality, teamwork, dignity, respect and compassion.
