Are you reliable, compassionate and ready to play a vital role in supporting patient care across the hospital? We’re looking for two dedicated Porters to join our team at Hereford County Hospital, ensuring patients, equipment and essential materials are moved safely, efficiently and with dignity.

 

About the Role

As a Porter, you’ll be at the heart of hospital operations, providing a safe and responsive service across all clinical areas. Every day is different, and your work will directly support patient experience, clinical teams and the smooth running of the hospital.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Safely transporting patients between wards, departments and theaters (via walking, wheelchair, trolley or bed)
  • Assisting with emergency transfers, including supporting A&E and helicopter arrivals
  • Conveying blood specimens, patient notes, xrays and essential items across the site
  • Removing deceased patients to the mortuary with dignity and professionalism
  • Replacing and transporting medical gas cylinders and restocking oxygen banks
  • Supporting pharmacy distribution and equipment movement
  • Handling clinical and nonclinical waste and laundry
  • Responding to emergency calls including resus, fire, security and child abduction alerts
  • Managing urgent and nonurgent goods inwards, ensuring accurate records
  • Carrying out additional duties as required to support hospital operations

 

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Manual Handling training
  • Empathy and a caring approach with patients and visitors
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Effective communication and customer care skills
  • High standards of personal hygiene
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Basic literacy skills

 

Desirable:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible, positive work ethic
