Building Apprentice

Job Introduction

You’ll be trained by experienced engineers and supervisors, developing skills in electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems, and general building maintenance. The role also includes specialist training in fire door maintenance, a key focus of the apprenticeship.

What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting day‑to‑day building maintenance across the hospital estate
Learning to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks
Assisting with fault diagnosis, repairs, and testing of plant and equipment

Maintaining and preparing work areas, reinstating them after tasks
Completing apprenticeship coursework, portfolios, and assessments
Using Sodexo’s CAFM system to process and monitor maintenance tasks
Attending college one day per week
Working professionally with patients, staff, and visitors
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Good verbal, numeracy, and interpersonal skills

GCSE Maths & English at Grade 4 or above
Willingness to attend specialist training (including fire door training)
Ability to work as part of a team and independently
Strong attention to detail and ability to priorities tasks
Commitment to health & safety best practice
Desirable
Awareness of health & safety legislation
Hours & Training
40 hours per week, typically 08:00–17:00, with flexibility to meet service needs
One day per week at college as part of the apprenticeship
Occasional additional cover may be required
