Job Introduction
We’re looking for a Domestic Assistant to join our Sodexo team at North Devon District Hospital. In this vital role, you’ll help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work will directly support health and wellbeing throughout the hospital. What you’ll do:
- Carry out scheduled cleaning tasks in designated areas, following all relevant policies and procedures.
- Maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness across all areas of responsibility.
- Safely manage and dispose of domestic and clinical waste in line with infection prevention and control guidelines.
- Replenish consumables such as paper towels, toilet rolls, soap, and other cleaning supplies.
- Use, store, and maintain cleaning equipment and materials safely and in compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Perform a range of domestic duties including cleaning sanitary areas and surfaces, bed cleaning, dishwashing, curtain changing, floor care, and waste collection.
- Respond to ad-hoc cleaning requests and report any maintenance or care concerns to supervisors, ensuring a patient-focused service.
- Support hospital operations by undertaking additional housekeeping or departmental duties as required by the line manager.

- Working within a cleaning team, dealing with waste, smells, bodily excretions and dirt

- Ability to work independently, flexibly and professionally – dealing with stressful and changeable situations

- Basic literacy
- Physically able to push a cleaning trolley and move light furniture
- High standard of personal hygiene
