About the role:

The Multiskilled Technician is responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance and engineering support across building systems, equipment, and facilities. The role requires both mechanical and electrical competence and a proactive approach to maintenance, fault diagnosis, and compliance with UK regulations and Sodexo standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM)reactive repairs, and corrective maintenance across a variety of mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs on systems such as HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, water, and plumbing.
  • Support the safe operation of critical systems and respond promptly to alarms or breakdowns.
  • Perform electrical isolations, testing, and inspection in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
  • Maintain and service mechanical assets including pumps, valves, motors, and air handling units.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of work orders, service reports, and risk assessments using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and contractors to ensure smooth delivery of maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to Sodexo’s HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment & Quality) policies and procedures at all times.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, energy efficiency, and client satisfaction initiatives.
  • Participate in standby or call-out rotas if required by the site.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

Essential:

  • Recognised Level 3 qualification in either Electrical Installation or Mechanical Engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated multiskilled capability across both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) — required for electrical-biased roles.
  • CSCS / ECS Card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • F-Gas Category 1 (if involved in HVAC or refrigeration work).
  • Level 3 Building Services Engineering / HNC or HND.
  • Authorised or Competent Person (AP/CP) for LV, pressure systems, or confined spaces.
  • Legionella Awareness (L8), Asbestos Awareness, and Manual Handling training.
  • IOSH Working Safely or First Aid at Work certification.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in building services or facilities maintenance, ideally within a corporate environment.
  • Experience working on mechanical and electrical systems (HVAC, lighting, pumps, BMS).
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliancepermit-to-work, and safe systems of work.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo, Planon, or Concept Evolution).
