Position Overview:

The Lead Engineer is responsible for managing both external suppliers and internal teams to ensure the efficient delivery of services within Sodexo’s service level agreements (SLAs). This includes overseeing a team of engineers, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, and managing engineering activities from quotation to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordination of External Suppliers and Contractors:

  • Manage external suppliers and contractors to ensure timely and high-quality service delivery according to Sodexo SLAs and client requests via the Site CMMS system.

  • Conduct permit issuance, safety walk-downs, and inspections, ensuring that work progress aligns with client satisfaction and safety regulations.

  • Oversee small project management from quotation to completion, continually evaluating cost-effectiveness and compliance with health, safety, GMP, and other relevant policies.

Day-to-Day Management of Craft Team:

  • Manage a team of in-house engineers, including a plumber, electrical engineer, and HVAC engineer, ensuring tasks are assigned and completed according to priority KPIs.

  • Conduct regular team meetings and document employee performance in the Sodexo PDR system.

  • Ensure that all team members are compliant with training, environmental health and safety (EHS), and statutory requirements.

Audit and Compliance Management:

  • Actively participate in internal and external audits, ensuring all statutory programs are audit-ready at all times.

  • Oversee maintenance activities in accordance with site policies, including health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) practices, as well as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

  • Review risk assessments and method statements to ensure compliance with current legislation.

Service and Financial Management:

  • Obtain quotations for planned and remedial works and manage the financial aspects of service contracts, including invoicing and payments.

  • Oversee service contract execution, reviewing reports from service providers and ensuring compliance with agreed terms.

  • Manage databases related to refrigerant systems, emergency lighting PMs, and other relevant service components.

Health, Safety, and Hygiene:

  • Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards as set by both the company and client.

  • Provide staff training and ensure compliance with statutory and company Health & Safety requirements.

Personnel and Training:

  • Collaborate with your line manager to identify personal development needs through Aspire meetings.

  • Lead the training and development of the craft team, ensuring compliance with site training requirements and legislative changes.

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strong client and colleague relationships.

  • Address customer complaints and escalate when necessary.

  • Organize and manage ad hoc activities as needed to meet deadlines.

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and site regulations.

Person Specification:

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control (I&C) background.

  • Minimum GCSE level education.

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations such as LOLER, PUWER, ACOP L8, F-Gas, and LEV systems.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent safety accreditation).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases.

  • Strong administrative, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Effective interpersonal communication with customers, clients, and staff.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.

  • Engineering experience in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and ISO standards.

  • Experience with work order planning systems (e.g., Maximo).

  • Supervisory experience in managing staff and contractors.

  • Ability to write technical reports and develop service level agreements (SLAs).
