The Role:

As Assistant Chef you will help prepare and present high-quality meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and customer service. You will be responsible for ensuring that food preparation, storage, and service meet company standards, managing kitchen cleanliness, and supporting the team in delivering an efficient service.

What you do:

  • Comply with all legal and safety requirements in the kitchen.
  • Assist with food preparation and presentation to company standards, ensuring high-quality cooking and service.
  • Store deliveries properly, maintain stock rotation, and follow delivery procedures.
  • Direct staff to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, especially at the end of the day.
  • Serve customers promptly and maintain good customer service.
  • Replenish food and equipment, ensuring freshness, flavor, and presentation.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including food temperatures, cleaning, and stock takes.
  • Follow guidelines for special dietary needs, allergens, and food safety.
  • Promote teamwork and report any issues to management.
  • Participate in training, comply with policies, and assist in staff development.
  • Support school events, including evening and weekend functions.
  • Help with setup and clean up for events and handle emergency tasks as needed.

What you bring:

  • Must have expertise on cooking on a large scale preparing about 1000 meals a day.
  • Have experience following recipes, possibly in school catering.
  • Have previous staff supervision experience or line management experience.
  • Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy Kitchen environment.
  • Be professional, leading by example and having a positive outlook is key.
  • Hold basic food handling skills certification:
    • NVQ Level 2
    • Level 2 Food safety Certificate
    • A minimum of 1 years of experience in hands on cooking, training on Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety will be given.
