The Muslim Chaplain will be a key member of the Chaplaincy Team, providing pastoral support and faith-specific care to both prisoners and staff at HMP Bronzefield.

Main Responsibilities
- Plan and lead worship and faith-specific meetings
- Provide pastoral care and crisis support to prisoners
- Support Chaplaincy volunteers in their roles
- Coordinate services from contractors and volunteers
- Collaborate with other Chaplains and the Managing Chaplain to maintain worship facilities
- Inform the prison community of religious events and organise support

The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Able to work flexibly and creatively with strong planning, organisational, and record-keeping skills, as well as effective verbal and written communication, computer literacy, and the ability to produce regular reports.
- Skilled in building and maintaining effective relationships with local communities, faith groups, staff at all levels, fellow Chaplains, prison visitors, and volunteers.
- Confident in engaging with, targeting, and recruiting from various community groups.
- Proficient in public speaking, leading groups, delivering programmes, and conducting corporate acts of worship.
- Able to perform all spoken aspects of the role confidently in English or Welsh (if specified in Wales).
Essential Skills/ Qualifications/ Accreditation/Registration
- In-depth knowledge of Islam, ideally with a recognised graduate-level qualification in Islamic Studies.
- Minimum of three years’ proven experience as an Imam, including worship delivery, group work, and pastoral care.
- Formal endorsement from the Prison Service Muslim Adviser at Chaplaincy HQ (required prior to appointment).
Desirable
- Experience working with diverse faith and community groups.
- Experience within a prison setting.
- Background in a Chaplaincy Team (e.g., prison, hospital, education) or other prison departments.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience in fundraising.
Package Description
Salary up to £33,029.24 per annum - depending on experience.
£29,300.00 per annum plus £3,729.24 London Weighting per annum.
Working Hours - 37.50 hours (Regular Monday – Friday pattern)
