As a Kitchen Supervisor based on site at Birmingham Children's Hospital, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality catering service for patients, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the Patient Services and Retail Managers, you’ll ensure efficient meal preparation and timely service, with a strong focus on food safety, hygiene, and customer care. Your role involves overseeing food presentation, supporting the meal delivery process, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and fostering strong working relationships with the ward-based teams, all to enhance the overall patient and visitor experience.

We are seeking a skilled individual to oversee food production, manage finance-related duties, and ensure health and safety compliance. This role requires solid kitchen experience, ideally suited for someone with a background in food preparation and qualifications in food safety. A chef’s background would be highly beneficial.

What you'll do:

  • Operational: Ensure high standards in cooking, presentation, and service; stock meal trolleys fully; coordinate with staff on dish specifics, portion sizes, and allergen management; assist with retail tasks as needed.
  • Delivery: Oversee timely dispatch and arrival of meal trolleys to wards.
  • Service: Conduct spot checks and audits on meal delivery standards, step in as catering assistant when required, build rapport with ward teams, and address minor complaints, relaying feedback to the Patient Services Manager.
  • Documentation: Complete and maintain accurate records for temperature, patient counts, portion control, wastage, stock, and end-of-day checks.
  • Cleaning: Adhere to kitchen cleaning schedules and conduct regular hygiene inspections.
  • General Maintenance and Staffing: Report maintenance needs, ensure staff rotas are complete, manage sick leave paperwork, monitor staff performance, identify training needs, attend team meetings, and hold team huddles.
  • Training & Compliance: Complete required food safety and health training, stay updated on legislation, and follow food safety and health standards at all times.
