Job Introduction

We currently have a vacancy for a cook to join our team at an Approved Premise (AP). Working alongside the National Probation Service (NPS) the team at APs work in secure homes for Ex-Offenders who are on license from the prison service and are making the transition back into the community.

This position offers a real sense of value and meaning as you work alongside the team whose aim is to support rehabilitation and help reduce re offending amongst the residents. It holds fantastic opportunities for career progression, overtime, and advancement.

Mealtimes are key to the normal daily operation of the property, as they help to provide a sense of routine and structure that, in turn, contributes to positive health and wellbeing for the residents.

The hours of work are every Saturday and Sunday 1pm-6pm. The rate of pay is £10 per hour, paid monthly.

Full training, uniform, and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided to you from day one.

Main Responsibilities

  • You will plan, prepare, and serve all meals for the residents, at the required times, and to high quality and nutritional standards, showing real passion and care for the service you provide.
  • Whilst preparing food, you will do so with due care and attention to special dietary requirements and allergen issues, ensuring attention is also paid to stock levels to ensure the efficient running of the kitchen
  • You will assist in implementing the service for all hospitality related activities, including production, service, and clear-down, ensuring adherence to cleanliness and hygiene standards at all times.
  • You will be responsible for conducting all your activities in a safe manner by always wearing all required PPE, following all relevant Sodexo and NPS processes and procedures
  • You will be responsible for reporting any safety issues, faulty equipment, or other areas of concern to your line manager
  • You will adhere to all company policies in relation to infection control, security, and COSH regulations and undertake any training necessary
  • You will be responsible for conducting all your activities in a safe manner by always wearing all required PPE, following all relevant Sodexo and NPS processes and procedures
  • You will be responsible for reporting any safety issues, faulty equipment, or other areas of concern to your line manager, including any SafeGuarding concerns

The Ideal Candidate

  • Will be able to work well to time pressures, whilst delivering excellent, wholesome, and tasty meals.
  • Will have the ability to set and achieve high standards, and operate to performance criteria, with regard to hygiene and budgets.
  • Will have a real passion and understanding of the important nature of the work they deliver.
  • Will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to verbally communicate effectively with residents and other site personnel, in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Will have a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or a background in a similar role
  • Will be reliable and have excellent timekeeping
